Who is Ravalnath Dev?

Mythology (purana-itihasa) Saraswat brahmins dwelling on the banks of river saraswati were majorly “shaivaits”. They were also “Shakti (Devi)” araadhaks. Their Kuladevathas are logically Shiva-Shakti forms which we call as Parivar and Panjishta devathas. Vaishnava Brahmins were also there but largely Shaivaits. At the time of draught in Saraswathi River, all varna peopole have migrated to Eastern side like Kashmir, Punjab, Utter pradesh, Bengal, Bihar, Assam etc settling near River banks. Their daily rituals and religious practices continued. Vishnu, Shiva, Durga, Saraswati, Laxmi, Ganapathy gods araadhana were part of their total commitment to religion obligations.

Ravalnath

is the combination of three gunas like 1. Satwik 2. Rajasik and 3. Tamasik. Shivam-Shantam, Shivam-Sundaram, Shivam-Ugram are the forms (roopas) of shiva indicating that the thrigunas were influenced on even gods. Also that Brahma – satvik – creator, Vishnu – rajasic – sustainer and Shiva – tamasic – destroyer are their fundamental forms. These three gunas in one form is Ravalnath. All the forms of gunas have influence over the prakriti (nature). in satvik – nature is cool, rajasic - flowers, fruites, and in tamasic form, there will be volcanoes, earthquakes, sunamis, uprising sea etc. He is eager to come to the rescue of his devotee who is in difficulty. In some puranas Ravalnath is being viewed as Shiva-Amsha (part of Shiva)

Ravalnath (as per dhyana sloka)

Ravalnath is the united form of trinities (brahma, vishnu and maheshwar). in his 4 hands you find brahma’s – akshaya patra, shiva’s – damaru, thrishul, khadga, and vishnu’s – namams. He is riding on the horse (vaaji vahana) because he can reach the devotee in any form (earth and space). He is very kind to his devotees (bhakta kaarunya gamyam). He is formed to destroyers of demons.or distructive forces (daitya darpa dalanam) Always shining (sada brhajitam), Ravalnath is the Lord of Kedar hills (kedara natham bhaje). He is in the form of Shiva & Natha panthiya (natha marghadhipantam))

Ravalnath as per the meaning of His name

In Sanskrit language the name “Raval” carries the meaning as “difficulty/misery”. He is the Lord of misery means – a devotee in difficulty remembers and prays for him, He will come and help OR one who is his devotee is free for difficulty/misery. In Sanskrit, the name Raval has come from the word “Rahul” means “Great or Shresht”. He is the leader and he killed demons , evil forces even to save Gods who were in difficulties and they remembered Him. Rahul is a name from Buddhism meaning “Great”/”Lord” etc Another meaning of “Raval” is “Brightness”. Since he is in the form of “Light”, he is Prakashman or Jyothi rupam. CONCEPT: He is a part of both Shiva and Vishnu followers. Ravalnath is always with the Kuladevatha in different forms. Hence by worshiping any Kuladevatha, Ravalnath is remembered directly or indirectly to come out or face difficulty.

God is taking different forms to go logically and sometimes miraculously with nature to help and protect his devotees. etc like Narasimha, Varaha, Rama, krishna etc. Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwara inividuallyl are unable to kill Demon Kolasura . Hence they unitedly took the form of Ravalnath or Kedarnath who destroyed the demon as per Kolhapur Mahalaxmi’s Karavira Purana. Thus Ravalnath is a Super Power over the Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. He saved Maha Laxmi as a defence general (Senapathi). Who ever remembers Him, worships Him, call Him for help, Ravalnath presents himself before the devotee. He is Prakashman and moves faster than light.

Why Two Ravalnaths?

The Devaki Krishna Ravalnath temple in Marcel is situated in between two lanes (wados). The kulavis were living in peace intitially. In those days “Shantha Durga/Mangeshi” and “Marcel” were largely occupied by “dancing community” People used to go over these places were og different interests. Some to negotiate and have second alliance, some for as stay partners and other interest were common in those days. Those lanes were more occupied by the dancer’s communities and the lanes were termed as ‘gaanwada –music area) and “paan waada – beetle leaf (beetle leaf & nut sold place). There were often disputes/conflicts between kulavis staying in these lanes during the time of temple festivals, while serving food, taking procession, palki seva etc. There were competition and conflicts among dancing community girls causing a split. There were two groups one belonging to “Paan Wada” which became “Pandawada”. The other by name “Gaan Wada” became “Gavaan Wada” or “Gaound Wada” Devaki krishna and laxmi ravalnath temples is situated in “gavanvaada” where original Ravalnaath Kulavis worshiped. The spinter group started one more Ravalnath temple on the side of “paan waada” which is called as “Pisso Raulu” Mahalaxmi Ravalnath is called “shaan roulu” or wise Ravalnath and single Ravalnath temple God is called as “Pisso Roulu” or “Idio Ravalnath”. But for all Kulavis of Pisso Roulu and Jaan Roulu, the main shrine of Devaki-Krishna remained the same. The separate Gothra followers for different Ravalnaths are mentioned. However, both the groups of Kulavis worship Devaki-Krishna
