Kagal - Devaki Krishna & Hiregutti Mahalaxmi Ravalanath

Our elders moved with idols, families in boats and reached a place near the present place called Tadadi which is port. They entered inner water River “Aghanashini”. The boats lost contact and one boat carrying Devaki Krishna reached a place known as “Kagal”. A place of dense forest adjecent to Tadadi port. They entered the high place in the forest to see that Portugese people will not be able to reach that place. They installed –
1. Devaki Krishna (stone idol) 2. Mallinath (linga ) 3. Daadshanker (stone) 4. Bhoomika (stone idol)
5. Ganapathy (stone idol) + the stones of Ganas and Purushas.
These prana shaktis were transferred into stone, Kalasha, Coconut etc so that carrying becomes easy and enemy will not know what is inside.
Another group of boats reached the opposite side of the same Aghanashini
River, the place called Hiregutti.
1. Mahalaxmi (Bronze idle) standing in a 7 Headed serpent. (Shesha)
2. Swarna Laxmi (Stone)
3. Ravalnath (statue),
4. Two – Bronze Hands – Tarang of Ravalnath
5. A Copper plate carrying the impression of Veera Bhadra
6. Vana Devatha stone) and many Ganaas and Gothra Purushas and other
Purushas (Oracles/darshan).
In Hiregutti Temple
In Kagal temple there are oracles (darshan/bhaaru). It is believed that the
Taranga (Bronze hands of Mallinath)
Moola Purushas
Every kuladevata have followers or devotees from all
Communities from Brahmins to the non Brahmins of different occupations like
Washermen, fishermen, barbers, agriculturists etc. Brahmin Purushas are
Installed around the inner areas of the temple. Other caste Purushas stones are
Installed on the outer areas of the temple.
moola purushas are brahmin/non-brahmin persons attained the spiritual status
given by the kuladevata for their ardent devotion after their death. . The first
person of a gothra is Moola Purusha.
who started worshipping the kuladevata is given this status. Such souls are
installed in the linga form and placed outside the garbha griha. These Purushas
are turned into oracles (darshan/bharu) among their desidents goes by “gothra
purusha”. at the time of “kavala prasad or kulave’s prasad”, if there is an oracle
of a given gothra, the prasad will be handedover by the said gothra oracle to
those followers (gothris)
Temple Oracles
(dev darshan/bhar) the spirit entering in an individual and able to see the past, present and future. Also cause and action to be taken on dharmadharit way. It can be Kala Bhairav, Naga Kania, Veer Bhadra etc. Another type in which the man turned spirits called as purushas. These purushas are called as “Gram purush, Vaate Purush, Simha Purush, Mhal purush” etc. There is a specific reason for that oracle. Dduring the time oracle or trans, the problems faced by a kulavi is resolved. Solutions are given known as “nirup” protecting the individual and his family. The disputes between two people or two groups of families etc are resolved in an oracle which is final and binding.
